"The Novus project is inspiring. Novus also served as a model project relative to SITES refinement, and I was thrilled to see the project team think well beyond the building skin. (LAM, Feb. 2013)"

Marni Evans

Past Interim Director, Sustainable Sites Initiative

One of the Sustainable Sites Initiative’s (SITES) first pilot projects.

The campus of Novus International is a performing regenerative landscape – a study of resiliency that has spurred change through biodiversity and challenged the accepted landscape of corporate environments within an entire region. The application and sustained function of this naturalized landscape serves as a guide to the development and growth of sustainable design methodologies in the built environment. Inspired by the surrounding bluffs of the Missouri River, the resulting three-star SITES-certified design continues to serve as a case study across the country for allied professionals and academic institutions.
Much of the value recognized by the client was greatly realized only after the project was completed and established. As an organization, Novus sees the health and well-being of its employees as critical to success. As such, the outcome of the design greatly focused on creating opportunities to enhance the workplace. In 2012, Novus saw a 12 percent reduction in overall maintenance costs from the previous year prior to implementation. Since then, these costs have continued to decline year-over-year, and in 2014 Novus anticipates a 47 percent reduction in maintenance costs after only two years of growth and maturity.

"This project has provided insight to opportunities in sustainable design that could affect regional change and improve how we all think about the way our surroundings are designed, constructed and maintained."
