Healing gardens are meant to inspire hope, comfort and encourage patients, their families, and the staff who care for them. These spaces provide opportunities for introspective thought and reflection. The Life and Hope Garden at Southeast Missouri Cancer Center offers a welcoming environment, and symbolizes both symmetry and balance.

Patients are given opportunities to mark significant milestones during the course of their treatment – stones from within the water features are often inscribed with prayers, words of wisdom, and expressions of gratitude. They remain behind as a permanent reminder of the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual journey towards healing and recovery.

"This courtyard had to become a source of healing and inspiration - a goal that would prove invaluable for the design. Its impact strikes a balance with all aspects of healing - physical, mental, emotional and spiritual."
