Chapman Plaza and Gardens at Shaw Park

Chapman Plaza & Gardens at Shaw Park in Clayton, Missouri is the first phase in implementing the master plan for the park. Native Missouri limestone set into the hillside guides water toward the reflecting pond, traversing the pedestrian steps and ramp.

The newly-constructed plaza defines the prominent intersection in the heart of Clayton and sets precedence for the remainder of the park to follow. The level of design and materiality that lends to an invigorating yet restorative environment is easily accessible to residents as well as employees of businesses within the district.

A high public profile necessitates a highly-coordinated team and collaborative effort. SWT Design engaged public stakeholders and worked closely with organizational entities such as the Clayton Parks and Recreation Department, Clayton Century Foundation, and project donors.

Chapman Plaza & Gardens serves the public in many capacities, and it serves as a testament to SWT’s commitment to maintaining longevity in relationships. SWT has worked with the City of Clayton for a number of years, completing work which includes the master plan for Shaw Park.
